South Africa: Trade deficit to resume in January

By Helmo Preuss South Africa's trade balance with its non-Southern African Customs Union (SACU) trading partners is expected to swing back into a 500 million rand deficit after December's 2.833 billion rand surplus, which was the first surplus after eight consecutive monthly deficits. The range is from a one billion rand surplus to a 1.5 billion rand deficit. In January 2004 there was a 122 million rand deficit.
